Working in partnership with parents

At Little Peeple, we believe that strong relationships are at the heart of early learning. We know that parents are their child’s first and most important educators, so we work in close partnership with families from the start. Before a child joins us, we offer home visits and an extended settling-in period to help each family feel confident and comfortable. Many parents find this especially helpful when it’s their child’s first time away from home.

Our nursery team gets to know each child and family really well. Each child has a key person who supports their learning and development, while also building a trusting relationship with their parent or carer. We focus on each child’s interests, strengths and cultural background, helping them grow socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively.

Learning at home and at nursery

We also support learning at home. We use the Peep Learning Together Programme to share simple ideas for making the most of everyday routines and play. We use Tapestry, an online journal, so families can see what their child has been doing and share their own special moments too. We love it when families come in to share their hobbies, jobs or interests with the children – this brings learning to life and helps build children’s curiosity and understanding of the world.

Our Little Peeple curriculum

Our curriculum is based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is shaped by what each child needs, enjoys and is ready for. We offer a balance of adult-led activities, group time and child-led play – indoors and outdoors. Our large, natural garden is open all year round, and we believe there’s no such thing as bad weather – just the wrong clothes!

We use helpful approaches like the ORIM framework (Opportunities, Recognition, Interaction, Modelling) to support early learning in everyday life, the ShREC approach to encourage strong communication, and the WellComm toolkit to support early language development.

Books and stories are a big part of nursery life. Every child gets a free book each month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. We also run a lending library and take the children on weekly visits to our local library. We want every child to enjoy books and develop a lifelong love of reading.

Our learning environment

We see our learning environment as the ‘third teacher’ – alongside families and practitioners. Our spaces are carefully designed with open-ended, inviting resources that encourage children to think creatively, explore independently and enjoy learning through play.

Our values

At the heart of the Little Peeple approach are relationships – with children, families and each other. We operate an open-door policy and see ourselves as one big family, offering support, care and guidance whenever it’s needed. We know that when families, practitioners and children learn and grow together, everyone benefits.

Leaders and staff successfully create an extremely caring and nurturing nursery. Children settle quickly after they are enthusiastically welcomed by friendly and consistent staff. Children are happy, learn to listen carefully and establish strong relationships with their key person.

Ofsted report 2025

You are an incredible nursery, always so loving and kind. We feel so fortunate that A has been in your care all these years, we can’t believe she is leaving as a child that can write her name when she started as a baby.

Leaders have a clear vision that runs through all that is provided for children and their families. They recognise the importance of strong relationships around each child as essential in enabling them to develop their potential. The team works collaboratively with families to find out what they already do for their child and uses this as a foundation to do more together.

Ofsted report 2025

H has been so happy at nursery – such a special place. Although we are sad he is leaving a place he loves so much, we are truly grateful that it has given him such a great start in his learning journey.

Staff are excellent role models for communication and language. They create a focus on fostering a love of books. Children enthusiastically choose books, which they share with their friends. They enjoy chatting to adults, who skilfully introduce words and provide running commentaries alongside play. This contributes to children developing a broad vocabulary and becoming confident communicators.

Ofsted report 2025

Over the past five years you have all become part of our extended family, thank you so much for looking after our two boys, caring and loving them. They’ve always felt happy and secure at nursery, just a quick bye-bye and off they went every morning to play, laugh, read and experience the world.

Little Peeple Parent

Staff use effective methods to help children understand how to listen, share and take turns. As a result, children cooperate, behave well and develop good social skills. They respond to adults, develop confidence and become independent learners in readiness for moving on in their education.

Ofsted report 2025

Thank you so much for all the care, patience and love you have shown N during her time at Little Peeple, we deeply appreciate the positive impact you’ve had on her development and growth.

Partnership working with parents is a particular strength at the setting. Staff communicate effectively with parents to provide consistency in care and learning. For example, staff provide parents with tips and ideas to support children at home. Feedback from parents is extremely positive about the progress their children make.
